  The grain carving isn't just 'for show' - the grain has genuinely been carved out, so there is a subtle tactile feel to it. As for the pickups, Fender describe them as 'musical', 'dynamic', and 'snarling'. I would add 'snotty' - this guitar can play sweetly, but if you want to go full punk, it'll be just as happy.
